What is the Data Downloader?

  • The Data Downloader helps you download detailed xls/csv files for indices, sectors, industries, watchlists or portfolios of your choice against a set of parameters.

  • You can choose up to three built-in metrics from the dropdown menu in the parameters list.

  • Click on ‘Download Data’ after selecting the stock group and parameters to get the file in an excel format.

What is the ‘Buy or Sell Zone’?

  • Using the ‘Buy or Sell Zone’ tool, you can check if the stock typically trades above or below its current PE valuation on a standalone and consolidated basis during the chosen date range.

  • The Price to Earnings ratio (PE ratio) relates to a company’s price to its earnings per share ratio and can be used to analyse if the stock is expensive or cheap.

  • If the stock is trading above its historical PE levels, it is costlier than usual. If it is trading below, the stock is cheaper than usual.

  • To check a stock’s buy or sell zone, enter its name in the stock bar and select a date range. You can choose between Price to Earnings or Price to Book Value to generate the report. Price to book value compares a company's market value to its book value.

  • In the example shown below, the stock selected is Infosys Ltd with a date range of 07/01/2014 to 11/28/2022, and the parameter is Price to Earnings. The stock is in the PE Sell Zone since it historically trades below this PE.

  • The generated report shows both the standalone and consolidated PE performance of the stock, along with the current PE ‘Buy or Sell Zone’.

  • The data also shows the P/E range vs percentage of days traded within or below the range.

  • It also shows the median, average, highest, and lowest P/E values.

  • You can also find screeners for ‘Buy or Sell Zone’ at the bottom of the page.

What is the ‘Equity and Debt Allocator’?

  • It lets you choose an index, initial investment amount, and PE thresholds for equity to debt and debt to equity ratio.

  • For instance, If the PE goes above or below the desired threshold (check recommended ratio), you can move your funds into debt from equity or vice versa.

  • Here, the ideal PE threshold to move investment from equity to debt is 28.53 and debt to equity is 23.61. The recommended PE threshold to move your investments will be denoted in parentheses in the ‘Configure’ section

  • Click on submit to see strategies, as shown below.

  • Depending on where the PE threshold is set (within the recommended value or above it), the risk strategy will change.

  •  If the PE threshold for equity to debt is set at 26 and debt to equity at 22, the strategy will be as shown below.

If the PE threshold for equity to debt is changed to 30 and debt to equity to 26, the strategy will also change as shown below.

The gains change depending on the reduced risk strategy and classic buy and hold. Using this, you can analyse the risk and plan your allocation.
